How long does it take to boil corn?

Corn boil time

The general duration of time to boil corn is 5-10 minutes, regardless of whether the corn to be boiled is fresh corn or not. If the corn to be boiled is fresh corn, it will only take 5 minutes or less to get done with a juicy crunchy texture.

This is because fresh corn generally has more water content, so it is easy to cook when boiled. In contrast to corn that has been stored for a long time will have a little water content, so it takes more than 5 minutes to produce watery crispy corn when boiled.

Corn husks affect the duration of boiling

In Asian countries such as Indonesia, people prefer to boil the corn with the corn husk still wrapped in order to maintain the distinctive aroma and taste of the corn. However, it will take 6-10 minutes longer to boil the corn and the husks for it to fully cook.

Corn that is boiled with the skin on will have a more perfect taste of corn than corn without the skin.

Shaled Corn

Fresh shalled corn (not dry corn) is usually cooked by steaming. The time it takes to steam the shalled corn until cooked is 7-10 minutes.
In Indonesia, shalled corn is usually used as a healthy snack for children called the Jasuke snack. Jasuke is made from steamed warm shalled corn and topped with grated cheese, milk and a little syrup of various flavors. Jasuke itself is an abbreviation of the ingredients for this snack, namely JAgung (Corn) + SUsu (Milk) + KEju (Cheese).
