The Second Wave of Covid-19 in Indonesia, Medical Workers Overcome Surging Patients

Corona (Covid-19) second wave

It is undeniable that the second wave of Covid-19 that has occurred in Indonesia has overwhelmed medical personnel. The Delta variant, also known as the India variant, has a faster transmission power than the previous Covid-19 virus.
Even in several cities such as Jakarta, Bangkalan, Surabaya, Jogjakarta and Kudus, the isolation room is no longer available (it is already full of patients). The Delta Covid-19 variant with the ability to transmit faster is the cause of the high spike in the second wave of Covid-19 cases.

Tangerang medical staff overwhelmed

Spokesperson for the Tangerang Regency Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Hendra Tarmizi, revealed that the Covid-19 health workers in the area were overwhelmed with handling the increasing number of Covid-19 patients in the area. His condition was made worse by the number of medical personnel who were also exposed to the corona virus.

"Many medical personnel have also been exposed to Covid-19, some have recovered, some are still self-isolating," said Hendra, Wednesday (30/6).

At least 30 health workers in Tangerang Regency, tested positive for Covid-19 in June 2021. Some of them are still self-isolating.

Currently there are around 10 thousand medical personnel working in the Tangerang Regency area, some of them specifically dealing with Covid-19 cases. This number is still insufficient in the face of the high spike in Covid-19 cases.

"The number of our medical personnel is around 10,000, but this number is still lacking, especially in hospitals or health centers that handle Covid-19 patients," he said.

Meanwhile, efforts to add medical personnel to meet this need cannot be done immediately. There are several processes to go through.

"You can't just add more, of course there must be several processes and exercises," he said.

Based on data quoted from https://covid19.tangerangkab.go.id/, there are currently 201 Covid-19 patients being treated. In addition, 768 patients were isolated. There are also 23 suspected patients.

The total confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Tangerang Regency reached 14,919 cases. Of that number, 13,640 people were declared cured, and 302 people died.
