The Loki series, which Marvel started releasing on June 9, 2021, seems to have made many fans of this series confused with the story presented in the series. This is because the Loki series is not a story about Loki's cunning and deceit in an effort to master something like what was present in Loki's story against Thor and the Avengers.
But actually the Loki series is more focused on stories about the timeline of the universe. Yes, the timeline of the universe as told to one of the Avengers characters, namely Dr. Strange who has the power to guard the timeline and manipulate it.
Loki caught by TVA
In Loki episode 1, it starts with the story of Loki who at that time managed to escape from the Avengers in New York (2012) using a tesseract and arrived in the desert. Not long after, a troop appeared who came using the inter-dimensional door like Doraemon's magic door and immediately caught Loki.
This troop is the TVA troop or Time Variant Authority which is in charge of catching violations that occur in time jumps. This TVA troop is known as the Minutemen or also known as variant hunters.
If against the Avengers it takes a Hulk to beat Loki. Unlike the TVA troops, it only took one minutemen soldier with quite sophisticated equipment, Loki was immediately defeated in seconds with one hit and was captured quite easily.
Variants and Nexus
While in the courtroom, Loki received an answer from Miss Minute, which was an animated clock on the tv that explained Loki's mistake. It even explained what TVA's duties were all this time.
TVA believes that in every timeline of the universe there are the same people with different variants and at different times. Briefly, it's similar to the film The One, starring Jet Li as Yulaw, where an evil Yulaw from a different dimension appears who wants to kill Yulaw who was a police officer at that time.
Likewise with the Loki series, according to TVA there is Loki who lives in Asgard in a different dimension. It's just that each time dimension has a different Loki variant too, it can be female, young or old.
When Loki uses the Tesseract to escape from the Avengers, he accidentally changes dimensions and has to deal with TVA.
People who make time jumps between universe dimensions are called variants. Because in fact they are variant types that should not be in that time dimension, but in another universe time dimension, so TVA must act because it can cause chaos in the universe timeline.
Loki recruited by Mobius as a TVA agent
At the time of the trial, Loki had protested because the Avengers had also made time jumps but were not punished. TVA judge Renslayer explained that it was the duty and destiny of the Avengers for the peace of the universe so that they could not be sentenced.
During the trial, one of TVA's best agents, Mobius, applied for leniency for Loki and requested that Loki be hired as an agent under his supervision. With a heavy heart, Judge Renslayer agreed.
Mobius also explains why he wants Loki to be his TVA agent. This is because at this time Mobius is pursuing the serial killer of the Minuteman troops, which is none other than a Loki variant that is stronger than the Loki in front of him at this time.
Because for Mobius, Loki who is with him at this time is a weak variant Loki who likes to cheat and likes to stab people in the back. So to catch Loki a stronger variant, another Loki is needed.
